HOTLINE TNT STUMP

New York’s Hotline TNT decimate their songs like all good shoegazers do, their guitars get crushed, their drums get smashed and their bass growls angrily from the bottom of the wreckage. Yet somehow on latest single ‘Stump’ the prevailing notion is one of tenderness. William Anderson’s melodic and compassionate songwriting is what’s loudest in this loud room, strip back the fuzz and compression and you’re left with a poetic tune about a man playing cards with his family in Minnesota. The song is a victory lap release, the closing track from last year's acclaimed album Cartwheel, released on Third-Man and complemented by the playful visuals of animator Matt Carignan, with added sound design from Emil Bognar-Nasdor. -Adam Brown
